By all accounts except for his own, Bush has screwed up the Iraq war in a major way. Yet Bush keeps saying that Iraq is the central front in the “War on Terror.”

So… is there any evidence to think Bush is competent to handle the rest of the War on Terror?

No.

Why aren’t Democratic candidates making this argument?

And why do the pundits keep telling us that Democrats do well when the focus is on Iraq, and the GOP does better when the focus is on “terrorism”? How can this make sense? For five years the GOP has rebuffed Democratic efforts to protect ports, chemical plants, and other potential domestic vulnerabilities.

“It boils down to this: Who do you trust to clean up this mess?”
