Unlike the Brits, I’m not using the term “Mother” in the affectionate sense.
Everything you need to know about George W. Bush, you can learn by reading these two quotes from his mother, Barbara:
“Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?” -March 18, 2003
“What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas . . . . [M]any of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this – this is working very well for them.” -September, 2005
In the second quote, of course, Mrs. Bush is referring to the lucky victims of Hurricane Katrina whose homes were underwater, who were separated from their communities, and who were in temporary shelters in Houston’s Astrodome.
Like his mother, George is an aristocrat. If you are not in their class of people, you are dirt to them. That’s why George Bush gets so worked up about the injustice of the estate tax — which only affects the richest of the rich — while he isn’t in the slightest bit annoyed by the low minimum wage that hasn’t seen an increase in a decade.
George Bush has convinced a percentage of the American populace that he’s a man of the people. Maybe his fake Texas accent has helped.
